Panavision Australia is the biggest motion picture camera rental company in Australia.
The budget was pulled almost entirely for the 2003 Panavision catalogue at the last minute. The pressure was on to find a very cheap solution that could be produced very quickly.
There was no money and no time for a traditional printed catalogue. Instead I compiled a series of Adobe PDF files with an intricate set of embedded navigation links. The files were replicated to a dual bootable (i.e. a Mac format sector and a PC format sector) disc that was silk screened with three colours.
Panavision wanted to promote the HD aspect of its rental fleet; but the reality was that HD made up only a small part of their revenue. My solution was to create a product image montaged from the various products in the Panavision fleet. This incorporated all the elements and cheekily poked at the issue of film vs HD which was hot at the time. The image was well received by both Panavision management and client alike.
The cover insert was printed double sided with CMYK process and matt celloglazed. I ganged this up with another Panavision job I had running at the time and got it simply trimmed off. This meant that the insert was effectively printed virtually for free.
I hand assembled the inserts, replicated (i.e. stamped) CDs and translucent white plastic covers myself. Resulting in some sore fingers, but an astonishing low unit cost of around 30 cents.
