This advertisement was run in Free Range magazine.
Free Range's readers are not the typical Panavision client. This advertisement needed to appeal to the small budget production or the individual film maker. Most of Panavision's other advertising is targeted at the higher end of production.
I had taken this image a few years ago and had it on file. I chose it to say that Panavision were not just about big features. With one man and one Panavision rented camera, you can make a film.
The image was originally landscape format. I rearranged the elements of the photo to create the portrait framing that is used as the background here.
A quadtone process was employed to create a better tonal range than is possible with a single ink, yet still keep a black and white effect. The subtle cyany tone is intentional.
