Show reel disc to match business cards:

John Brawley Cinematographer Show Reel Disc

Job: John Brawley Business Cards

Client:   John Brawley

Details:   90 x 45mm, Custom Die Cut with rounded corners, four colour print single side plus gloss Celloglaze both sides.

About:

John Brawley is an Australian based cinematographer.

I wanted these cards to have a very clean and simple look. The custom Die Cut adds a bit extra impact. The cards are a standard width so they still fit in standard business card holders.

I used two fonts, but a bolder font with the exact weighting I required was not available. To get the look exactly right, I converted the type to vector outlines and manually adjusted the curves to get the weight I desired. The design relied on the weight relationship between the two type styles to be exacting.

All letters were carefully hand kerned. The type is really the star in this design, so it had to be set perfectly.

I rendered the red lens flares in Photoshop. At first I though that taken out of context that it might not be obvious what the lens flares were. I did a quick survey and the consensus was that it was obvious what they were.

The background is a four colour rich black, right on the limit of max ink specs, to give a blacker than black appearance.

A gloss Celloglaze on both sides finishes the cards, giving a nice feel in the hand, making the printing look sharper and the colour deeper.
