Avent Photography Web Site
Avent Photography is Sydney based. Advent specialise in studio portraits, events and wedding photography.
I completed this web site last week.
The banner with the Avent logo, which I had designed earlier, is coded with Flash. Sophisticated techniques have been employed to keep the banner very economical in file size, yet maintain great image quality and some subtle, yet effective animation, including sound.

Panavision New Zealand OnFilm Ad
I created this ad for Panavision New Zealand a few weeks ago.
Reference was taken from a design that was completed by Panavision Inc's creative director Susan Stone in the US. I took this existing design and massaged it to suit the client's ideals.

DJ Nic Godoy Reggaeton Mix CD Cover
I designed this CD art for DJ Nic Godoy this week.
For the background, I composited small sections of a photograph of a public mural that I had previously taken in Havanna, Cuba. The result is seamless and unique.
The Latin feel is to suit the theme of the Reggaeton mix.

DJ Nic Godoy Business Cards
I completed these business cards for DJ Nic Godoy this week.
I wanted the design to capture the colour and movement associated with a night club.
I took the background photo live at a club during one of Nic's DJ sets using a long exposure and manually firing a hand held flash unit multiple times.

New Canon EF 1.4x Mk II Extender
My new Canon 1.4x extender is here. Thanks Dave Chami!
The Canon extender fits prime lenses from the 135mm onwards and Canon zooms from the 70-200mm onwards. It goes on my Canon 135mm f2.0 L series making it a 189mm f2.8. Image quality is excellent. It is difficult to tell apart images taken with the doubler fitted and without.

John Brawley's Business Cards
I designed these business cards for Australian cinematographer John Brawley a few weeks ago.
The design is simple and clean, the type is really the star here. Exacting font weighting and hand kerning was employed to get the type as elegant as possible.

Panavision Mini-DV Director's Viewfinder Flyer
I put together this flyer for Panavision Australia last week on a new product they have developed for rental.
I used a couple of different styles of photography in the design. The main product shot uses carefully controlled depth of field to show the body of the director's viewfinder in sharp focus, the lens slightly soft and the background fully out of focus to place the emphasis on the product being promoted, yet still show it in use. To achieve the effect I used my Canon 135mm f2.0 L series lens and focused slightly in front of the subject rather than right on it.

David Knight Arri 435 Xtreme Flyer
It's been a pretty busy week for me. It is industry directory season in both Australia and New Zealand, so there is a heap of advertising artwork that needs to be in.
I also finished off a couple of jobs for Sydney based Director of Photography, David Knight. I did some DVD-Rs with a printed surface and cover inserts that Dave is going to put his show reel on.
Also these A5 flyers to promote the rental of his Arri 435 Xtreme camera kit and Zeiss Ultra Prime lenses. They are an update on a previous flyer that I designed for Dave a couple of years ago. They turned out very economical as I managed to gang them up with some other four colour jobs that I was running this week.

Hong Kong City Entertainment Magazine Ad
I just completed the design and production on this full page advertisement for Panavision Inc.
The ad was run in Hong Kong's biggest film industry magazine, City Entertainment with the prime placement positioning of the inside cover.
The production involved considerable retouching of images from different sources including frame-grabbed video stills.

New Apple MacBook
My New Apple MacBook arrived a couple of days ago.
Beautiful machine, really fast. The MagSafe power connector and magnetic latch are brilliant. I don't know what the fuss is over the glossy monitors? The monitor on this machine is amazing, about as reflective as a good CRT. The wireless range is nothing short of astounding, I'm finding new networks all over the place. It generates a bit of heat, but all modern laptops do. It runs a lot cooler than my mate's G4 PowerBook anyway. Apple are going to sell a heap of these MacBooks.
Yes I did pay extra for black. Once you see the matte black and white gloss finishes side by side, it's clear that the black finish is well worth the extra money. |

The Black Stars at the Excelsior Hotel in Sydney
I've posted a new gallery in the event photography section of some shots from a rock show last week in Sydney.
The Black Stars are an independent band from the North Coast of New South Wales.
They are worth checking out live or get yourself a copy of their five track CD.
Details at: www.theblackstars.com
It's refreshing to see some live music again where the performers have passion about what they are doing and enjoy themselves on stage.

Panafreight Logo Design
Panafreight is Panavision Asia Pacific's new freight company.
I designed the logo by choosing individual letters from two different fonts. I hand kerned each letter to get the spacing perfect and then converted the letterforms to vector outlines so that I could custom shape some of the letters into a more unique look. MORE... |

New Canon L Series Prime Lenses
I've just purchased two new Canon L series prime lenses.
A 24mm f1.4mm L series and a 135mm f2.0 L series.
The 24mm is the fastest wide lens that Canon make. A full 3 stops faster than the Canon 17-40mm L Series lens. That's 8 times as much light as the 17-40mm!
The 135mm is a stop slower than the 24mm, but at f2.0 is still amazingly fast for a longer lens.
Opened right up, both these lenses are capable of very shallow depth of field and can capture fantastic images in low available light.

Panavision Australia 2006 Rental Catalogue
The Panavision Australia 2006 rental catalogue is out. It features the new Panavision Genesis digital cinematography camera on the cover.
I'm really happy with the result this year. The photography, the printing, the die cut shape and the custom Mylar bags add up to a clean, slick feel. It is receiving very positive feedback from clients. MORE DETAILS |

Panavision Australia 2006 Rental Catalogue for iPod
I think this might be a a world first to have a product catalogue available as an iPod download? I've never seen it done before.
I've created a version of the 2006 Panavision Australia rental catalogue as a download for the Apple iPod.
This download displays a text based version of the Panavision Australia catalogue on the iPod using the Notes facility.
It is compatible with any Apple iPod with a dock connector including the iPod photo, iPod mini and iPod nano.
For more details and to download the catalogue visit the Panavision Australia web site. |

sodium vapour and mercury vapour street lights mixed with tungsten spill from the unit blocks that look out over the water.
